Office Ergonomics: The Secret That Might Be Hurting Your Office Productivity

There are many different things that affect your office productivity, from employee happiness to the speed of your office automation equipment. However, there is one simple thing you may be overlooking that could be damaging your office productivity without you even realizing it.

It’s no secret that sitting in your desk chair all day is detrimental to your well-being. However, that’s not the only thing that can affect workplace comfort.

Luckily, there are some simple office ergonomics changes you can implement to maximise your office productivity- and your team’s well-being.

Stop Slouching!

Slouching and poor desk posture are the biggest contributors to chronic back pain. Another thing you should avoid is having your neck slanted too often. If you talk on the phone regularly, consider using a headset so you can keep your neck straight.

Watch Your Eyes

Eye strain is a very common issue when you work at a computer desk all day. The glare from your computer screen can harm your eyes, forcing you to strain more often than you think. Keep your computer monitor at an arm’s length away to reduce glare. Avoid sitting in a spot that produces glare, such as in front of a window or bright light. Lastly, make sure you take your eyes off your screen every once in awhile to give your eyes a break.

Use The Right Chair

You want a chair that’s comfortable, but you also want to make sure you can adjust the height and angle. Your chair should sit at a height that puts your knees on the same level as your hips. Additionally, you should be sitting at a 90-degree angle- or as close to one as you can get.

Give Your Feet a Rest

Your feet should never be dangling. When you dangle them, it can cause pain in the back of your legs because of the strain you’re using. If you’re having a hard time keeping your feet on the ground, get a footrest or a stool to put your feet on.

Set Your Desk Up Properly

If the keyboard and mouse are too far away, and you’re always reaching for it, this can put a strain on your elbows and shoulders. Any other items you use regularly should also be reachable, such as your cell phone or stapler. Additionally, if your keyboard is at the wrong angle or you’re resting your hand on the palm rest too much, your wrists could become strained.

You could have the best photocopy machine money can buy, but if your team is burnt out, there isn’t much more you can do. However, the right office automation equipment is a big step in making sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible in your workplace.
