MFP Myths

Multifunctional printers (MFP) integrate traditional office duties (printing, emailing, scanning, etc.) into a single device. MFPs are an incredibly useful device for any business; ultimately saving space, reducing energy costs and enhancing productivity. We’ve already discussed the basics behind purchasing an MFP, but you may have heard a few myths along the way. Are these myths holding you back from adding an MFP to your office? Today, we will debunk four common multifunctional printer myths and show how you can enhance productivity with superior technology.

Myth #1: They are expensive

While MFPs can be expensive, they don’t need to consume the majority of your business’ budget. MFPs are less expensive than ever before- with even better quality. If you find a printer that you think will enhance productivity in your office, but can’t justify purchasing it, leasing the equipment provides you with access to a printer you otherwise could not afford.

Myth #2: An MFP is only good for copying and printing

A multifunctional printer is an investment, there’s no way getting around that. However, MFPs are generally underused, meaning that you aren’t getting your money’s worth out of them. MFPs allow you to automate your office beyond their copying and printing abilities. You can save time and money by combining copying, printing, scanning and emailing to automate office tasks.

Myth #3: All MFPs are the same

Not all multifunctional printers are created equal. Purchasing the cheapest model does that mean that you’ll get all the features you need. You’ll need to consider several aspects of your business in order to select the right one, including: how many average pages a day do you think you print, will you need a faster speed (may mean a higher price tag), do you want the ability to print of both sides of the paper, do you want wireless capabilities? Before you start looking at MFP, you need to decide how your business would use the printer.

Myth #4: Bigger is better

Similar to the last myth, not only do MFPs differ in capabilities, they also differ in size. If you operate a small business, or will only be using the printer for a specified number of people, you may not need a large machine in your office. Depending on what you require, a smaller version of an MFP can still provide you with the ability to automate your office and complete all the tasks that several separate machines would accomplish.
